I didn't hate it. I am giving it 3 stars because I thought it was well written, from an overall standpoint, but the storyline was off-putting to me. It's not that I don't believe in love at first sight, it's that what happened in this story creates an unrealistic view of abuse in so many ways. It makes it seem that it's easy as pie to move from a physically and emotionally abusive relationship right into a sweet, gushy one, without ever really working anything through, and the utter lack of realism in how the characters behaved was astonishing. I'm all for suspension of disbelief, and wanting a story to "take me away" from the real world a little, but this was so far away from the real world as to be on another planet! And honestly, the final statement of the book was so incredibly foul, crass and rude in it's simplicity that I found myself without words for a few moments. Grotesque!Product details

Crying in the Rain Hiding Behind The Couch edition by Debbie McGowan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I'm copying this review over from .co.uk - because although we in the UK get to read the reviews left on , I know it doesn't work the other way around, and I wanted to share my review with those across the pond!
Well anyone who reads my reviews knows quite how enamoured I am with Debbie McGowan's Hiding Behind the Couch series, but I have to say that Kris, one of the protagonists in this story, has been one of my least favourite characters. Ade, the other, wasn't too far up my list either. After reading this story of hurt and healing, strength from weakness and courage and love triumphing, I find myself quite angry.
Not for any discernible reason other than I was wrong, and I didn't get to know Ade and Kris sooner. I have read somewhere in the region of a million words about this circle of friends, and I realised I have never had the opportunity to REALLY get to know these two wonderful characters. After this story, a lot of their motivations in the other books make a lot more sense - the way you might think someone is whimsical or silly before knowing the rationale behind their words or actions.
This is, as other reviews have stated, by no means a fairy-tale. But it is a wonderful depiction of how when the chips are down, and you're broken, cowed and emotionally abused, the strength and belief of another can help you find things that you thought were long gone in yourself, and you can finally take steps towards healing with a little help from your friends.
Beautifully written, engaging, funny, sad, steamy - Debbie McGowan has done it again.
Never really was able to fully get into this book. One of the MCs was married, but separated while still living with his wife. They were best friends, but did have sex (let's blame it on the alcohol excuse). Nowhere in here was there ever a mention of getting a divorce while he continued seeing the other MC. While I did somewhat sympathize with the abused MC, I never felt any true connection with him. I can't honestly recommend wasting your money on this book.
Painfully British. It never really came together for me. I didn't like Kris much either. All in all not bad, but not great.
